The origins of our company go back to year 1.890 when Mr. José Verdú Cantó makes his first trip to the meseta of la Mancha to select the best saffron from the crop and trade this precious spice in various countries.

On the death of Mr. José Verdú in 1.921, his sons Olegario and Antonio succeed him in the business and the name of the company is changed to "Hijos de José Verdú Cantó". In this period the first commercial delegation of the company in India is established.

During the Spanish Civil war the company had to stop its activity until the year 1.940 when Jaime Verdú, grandson of the founder, takes on the company with his cousin Antonio Verdú at the age of 17. In this period our famous brands Pote and Syren were born.

In 1980, Mr. José Antonio Amorós and Mr. Francisco Durá became partners of the company. At this moment, the company changes its name to “Sucesores de J. Verdú Cantó S.L.” and the company “Saffron Spain S.L:” is founded concentrating its activities on the export of saffron under the brand Syren while “Sucesores de J. Verdú Cantó S.L ” concentrates its on the Spanish market with the brand Pote.

In 1.999 a new era in the history of our company starts as the companies "Sucesores de J. Verdú Cantó S.L." and "Saffron Spain S.L." are merged into "Verdú Cantó Saffron Spain S.L.". In this moment a new generation of descendants of the founder take managerial responsibilities and start a process of modernisation and expansion of the company.
